Premium hotel chain maintains its leadership position by continually improving support functions

THE CHALLENGE
After vetting Carpedia’s continuous improvement methodology against numerous other alternatives, a project was struck by this premium hotel chain to work with company Executives and local employees to generate improvements to the Housekeeping departments. The multi-faceted project posed unique geographic challenges with properties and management teams spanning North America.

THE RESULTS
A multi-wave installation spread over several months proved extremely successful generating an ROI of 8 to 1 exceeding the original requirement of 6.8 to 1. Instrumental changes that contributed to the achievement of these results included:
- Process improvements expediting the stocking of room carts
- Separation of linens from terry products on the cart to reduce laundry sort times
- Packaging of bed sheets in laundry to reduce time spent by attendants gathering sheets
- Enhancing the work assignment process to eliminate travel time delays to floors
- Reassignment of stripping rooms to reduce checkout room cleaning cycle time
- Changing processes for delivering vacuuming boards and keys to elevators for pick-up by attendants
- Increasing capacity by converting caddy stocking time to turndown time and expediting the turndown process
- Redefinition of roles and responsibilities to dedicate more time to the room inspection process reducing the need to rework standard activities
In addition, key leaders within the organization were trained on the Carpedia continuous improvement methodology and played an important leadership role in sustaining changes made throughout the project and continuing to implement further improvements. Since project close the Executive team has taken this training a step further in adopting it as the world-wide standard of continuous improvement for the entire organization.
